Welcome to the Eastern Ontario Trails, your guide to outdoor recreation and adventure in Eastern Ontario. With trail networks spreading from the Bay of Quinte, all the way north to Algonquin Park, there are endless ways for you and your family to discover Ontario’s history, natural environment and rural communities. Whether hiking, cycling, horseback riding, canoeing, ATVing or snowmobiling, are your pleasure, we have trails you’ll want to explore. You can visit for the day, or stay for the week. The Centre Hastings Heritage Loop is a beautiful scenic trail that takes you on a tour along side the villages of Madoc, Marmora, and Stirling just to name a few! Enjoy the serenity of being at one with nature as you travel through the picturesque township of Madoc. You can also enjoy visiting the historic Marmora Mine. With two thirds of the mine now filled with water, it is the perfect attraction to all sorts of wildlife, bringing out the naturalist in everyone! Lastly make your way over to Stirling to visit the village that was awarded the title of Kraft Hockeyville 2012. With unbelievable community spirit, there are many shops that you’ll want to check out and the folks of Stirling will make you feel right at home. Do all this and more while touring the Central Hastings Heritage Loop.

Central Hastings Heritage Loop experience

  • Leave Tweed head west until you come to a bridge over a trail about 17km to 22 km out
  • Go down the ramp to the other trail below and head North you will come to Madoc at the end of the trail follow along a street until you come to the trail beside the Ambulance station go along side the ambulance station and follow the trail you will come to a long bridge and then you go out to # 7 highway.
  • Cross the highway follow the road beside Tim Hortons and around by the fuel station. You will come to # 62 highway
  • Follow # 62 highway until you come to Eldorado. Just north of the sign that says Eldorado at a corner you will see the trail turn left.
  • Go south on the trail
  • After riding about 30 km on the trail you will come to # 7 highway again cross over and follow the trail until you come to an intersection continue to head south most likely about another 25 km you will come to another intersection turn left and head towards Stirling. Go through Stirling following the trail.
  • You will cross a few bridges and then come to another intersection turn left and head north east but mostly north follow the trail until you come to the bridge that is above the trail. Go up the ramp and turn right head east back to Tweed

Drag Lake, Memorial Picnic area, Crookston bridge, Moria Lake, Deer Creek Bridge, Marmora Mine, Within Tweed Madoc Marmora and Stirling you will find accommodations, restaurants and fuel stations.

Let the Tweed to Bancroft Run entice your curiosity. This trail will take you from the charming village of Tweed to the rugged mineral capital of Canada, the town of Bancroft, with marvellous scenic attractions along the way! Start your journey in the Village of Tweed where you can check out the world’s smallest jailhouse! Or spend some time on the alluring Stoco Lake and catch a fish… or two. On the way why not stop by the Marmora Mine. With two thirds of the mine now filled with water, it is the perfect attraction to all sorts of wildlife, bringing out the naturalist in everyone. Now that you have reached your destination, be sure to check out the ever-popular Eagle’s Nest; A magnificent cliff that overlooks the York River Valley, the town of Bancroft and the forest that surrounds it. This is something you surely won’t want to miss. Experience all this and more on the Tweed to Bancroft Run.

Take the Tweed to Gunter Loop for an unforgettable experience through Ontario’s beautiful trails. Start your journey off in the quaint village of Tweed where you can check out the world’s smallest jailhouse! Or spend some time on the alluring Stoco Lake and catch a fish… or two. Stop by the Marmora Mine. With two thirds of the mine now filled with water, it is the perfect attraction to all sorts of wildlife, bringing out the naturalist in everyone. Travel the trail and let it take you past Gunter to the magnificent Bon Echo Provincial Park. Visit the grand Mazinaw Rock, a 1.5-kilometer sheer rock face rises 100 meters above Mazinaw Lake, one of the deepest lakes in Ontario; A great destination for painters, photographers and hikers alike. Do all this and more while touring the Tweed to Gunter Loop.
